Family Forums are held on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month, and are intended to be a time of education, constructive dialogue, and support. Occasionally, topics of particular interest may also be discussed during a lunch hour forum.
A recent study found that at least 40% of all adoptions in the US are transracial, meaning that the adoptive family & adopted child are of different races. This month, in honor of Black History Month, we’re going to focus our conversations on some of the complexities and considerations of transracial adoptions.
You won’t want to miss this interactive panel discussion with transracial adoptees and their adoptive parents. They’ll share their experiences — what they’ve learned, what they wish they’d known at the time, and what they hope other families will keep in mind throughout a transracial adoption. Of course, we’ll have time for questions from attendees as well.
All Recommended families will receive an email inviting them to register for upcoming Forums. If you are Recommended and have not received an email invitation, please contact us at iap@fireflyIN.org. If you are not Recommended with Indiana Adoption Program, but are a licensed foster parent, have recently adopted or are in the process of finalizing an adoption and would like to participate, please email your request to your local adoption consultant.
