Family Forum: Parenting Styles

January 19 at 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm EST

Family Forums are held on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month, and are intended to be a time of education, constructive dialogue, and support. Occasionally, topics of particular interest may also be discussed during a lunch hour forum.

Parenting Styles: What are They, and Why are They Important?

As a parent, do you prefer to set the rules and have others follow? Do you thrive when there’s consistent structure, or are you a parent who likes to “go with the flow”? Are you attentive or distracted?

Parenting style is based on how we were raised, and it impacts how our children view the world and their place in it. Before this Forum, we’ll send each registrant a quick quiz to take that can help identify their parenting style. And then during the forum, we’ll explore how the way we were parented can carry over into how we parent our children, and what to do when our children need a different style than what we’re inclined to. This interactive forum is a must-attend!

All Recommended families will receive an email inviting them to register for upcoming Forums. If you are Recommended and have not received an email invitation, please contact us at iap@fireflyIN.org. If you are not Recommended with Indiana Adoption Program, but are a licensed foster parent, have recently adopted or are in the process of finalizing an adoption and would like to participate, please email your request to your local adoption consultant.
