Coaching Executive Function

December 13 at 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm EST

Family Forums are held on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month, and are intended to be a time of education, constructive dialogue, and support. Occasionally, topics of particular interest may also be discussed during a lunch hour forum.

Coaching Our Kids to Develop Executive Function

If you have a foster child or are planning to adopt from foster care, this Family Forum is a must attend! Many children with trauma histories struggle with executive function — and for parents who have solid EF skills, this can be a significant source of frustration and discord in the home.

But have hope! It is possible to learn executive function — to manage our impulses, maintain our focus, organize our thoughts, and plan our days. We’ll spend time building on the principles we discussed in the previous Forums this month, with a focus on how parents can help their children develop strong executive function skills. You’ll leave with real insight and information that you can put into practice at home, and the confidence that you can coach your foster or adopted child into cultivating these critical skills.

All Recommended families will receive an email inviting them to register for upcoming Forums. If you are Recommended and have not received an email invitation, please contact us at iap@fireflyIN.org. If you are not Recommended with Indiana Adoption Program, but are a licensed foster parent, have recently adopted or are in the process of finalizing an adoption and would like to participate, please email your request to your local adoption consultant.
