Family Forum: From an Adoptee’s Point of View

January 11 at 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm EST

Family Forums are held on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month, and are intended to be a time of education, constructive dialogue, and support. Occasionally, topics of particular interest may also be discussed during a lunch hour forum.

Identity & Acceptance From an Adoptee’s Point of View

Two young adult adoptees will share how being adopted shaped their identity, what the transition from foster child to adoptee felt like, what their adoptive families got right, and a few things they hope families do differently.

Both women acknowledge that growing up adopted wasn’t easy…for them or their adoptive families. But, they also both credit the consistent guidance, unwavering support, and “We’re not going anywhere” love of their adoptive families with helping them become who they are today: dedicated, passionate child welfare specialists who draw on their lived experience in their work with families and youth.

All Recommended families will receive an email inviting them to register for upcoming Forums. If you are Recommended and have not received an email invitation, please contact us at iap@fireflyIN.org. If you are not Recommended with Indiana Adoption Program, but are a licensed foster parent, have recently adopted or are in the process of finalizing an adoption and would like to participate, please email your request to your local adoption consultant.
